From this year onwards the education ministry will issue certificates to all students who obtain pass mark at the Grade Five scholarship Examination. Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena has instructed the Examinations Department to hand over the certificates to the students along with the results

Sri Lanka’s revenue from taxes has risen sharply after import duties on vehicles were slashed. The Director-General for fiscal policy of the Ministry of Finance and Planning S.R.Attygalle said the government earned 1,700 million rupees in July on vehicle import tax revenue alone after import taxes were slashed in June. It is an increase of around 240 percent compared to only about Rs. 500 million in May, the pre-tax cut period.

Sri Lanka agreed to lift a ban on sending domestic helpers to Jordan after a compromise was reached between the Sri Lanka Government and the Jordanian recruiters.
