Motor Traffic Act to be revised to implement spot fine in respect of violation of Seat Belt Regulations

The proposal made by Mr. Kumara Welgama, Minister of Transport, to amend the Motor Traffic Act to incorporate regulations under the Act in respect of the penalty for violation of Seat Belt Regulations and to present it in Parliament for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
The penalty will be as follows:
  •failure of the driver to use the Seat Belt - Rs.l 000; and,
  •failure of the front seat passenger to use the Seat Belt - Rs.l 000

Self-sufficiency in fish, Govt's aim

Making the fishing industry a lucrative venture and achieving self-sufficiency in fish is the Government's aim. Several programs such as insurance and pension schemes were launched to improve the livelihood of fishermen, he said.
He said that Sri Lankan fishermen should venture into the deep sea, the international waters to exploit its rich resources.

Mihin flights to Dhaka daily

Mihin Lanka hopes to fly daily to Dhaka in the near future, increasing facilities to the travellers.
"We have received an encouraging response from the Bangladesh market which led us to increase our flights to four on October 30, 2011.
We added the fifth frequency very recently-on March 30," Chief Executive Officer of the airline Kapila Chandrasena told a press meeting in Dhaka on Thursday.
